Dow AgroSciences Animal Health Division Selected as Finalist for Best in the Industry Excellence Award

Company’s Revolutionary Plant-Made Vaccine Technology Honored by International Panel

Indianapolis, IN - October 13, 2006

Dow AgroSciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), announced today that it has been recognized internationally for its contributions to the animal health industry. The company’s Animal Health business was honored as one of three finalists in the first annual Animal Pharm Industry Excellence Awards in the category of Best Technical Innovation. The Dow AgroSciences technology earning the honor was the company’s revolutionary Concert™ Plant-Cell-Produced vaccine production system.

“We are honored to be a finalist for this important industry award, not only because of the high caliber of companies represented through this program, but also because it highlights the dedication and talent of our employees,” said Butch Mercer, global business leader for Animal Health.

The Concert™ Plant-Cell-Produced System utilizes plant cells instead of whole plants in a secure, bio-contained environment to produce vaccines in a way that is safer, faster and more environmentally sound than traditional methods. The system uses only the necessary parts of the disease causing agent to stimulate immunity in a manufacturing process that is totally free of animal components.

In January of 2006, Dow AgroSciences received the world’s first ever regulatory approval for a plant-made vaccine from the USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB). This approval represented the first time any plant-made product had successfully demonstrated technology that met the stringent product development regulatory requirements, and was the first licensed vaccine produced using the Concert plant-cell-produced system.

“We are very proud of the accomplishments of our Animal Health team,” said Pete Siggelko, vice president, Plant Genetics & Biotechnology at Dow AgroSciences.  “Being the first company to ever register a plant-made vaccine was a remarkable accomplishment, and we are delighted that the excellence demonstrated by our team is being recognized on an international stage.”

Dow AgroSciences Animal Health leaders were in attendance at the awards ceremony, which took place today in London, England.
