CottonImportant Locust Update (PDF 270KB) - The GRDC has warned that locusts will be a major issue throughout the southern cropping region this season. The Australian Plague Locust Commission states that three generations of locusts have already hatched in the southern region as a result of widespread rain and favourable habitat conditions. Despite intensive attempts to control the current generation, eggs that were laid in autumn produced a widespread nymph (hopper) infestation in NSW, northern Victoria and eastern South Australia. Cotton production requires extensive inputs to produce high-quality fibre that can compete in the international market. This means controlling insect pests and weeds in the crop is necessary to ensure maximum yield, quality and profitability. Balanced Crop Production & Pest Management Solutions
