Australia’s first vineyards were planted in 1788 in a small area near where Sydney’s harbour bridge stands today. By the year 2010, 170,000 hectares of vineyards had been established throughout Australia.
Whilst this figure is impressive, growing grapes is no easy feat. Apart from having to deal with climatic conditions that cannot be controlled, pests and diseases continue to plague the industry causing losses in production. Fortunately these pests and diseases can be controlled with an understanding of their biology, a knowledge of the available products and how to use them.
