Success* 480 SC – New Naturalyte* For Colorado Potato Beetle Control

Calgary, AB - June 13, 2003

Success 480 SC, the first product registered in the entirely new Naturalyte class of insect control, has received Canadian registration for Colorado potato beetle control. Success 480 SC provides an entirely new mode of action and, as part of an integrated pest management (IPM) strategy, a solution to Colorado potato beetle control and resistance.

"The combination of excellent efficacy, a new unique mode of action and an excellent environmental and safety profile makes Success 480 SC an important tool for the Canadian potato industry," says Craig English, Dow AgroSciences Customer Agronomist.

Developed by Dow AgroSciences, Naturalyte insect control has an excellent environmental and human safety profile that is similar to other biological products (e.g., Bt) and are as effective as or better than conventional insecticides. Dow AgroSciences received the U.S. President's Green Chemistry Award for developing this new class of chemistry.

The active ingredient in Success 480 SC, spinosad, is produced by fermentation of naturally occurring bacteria. Success 480 SC acts quickly through ingestion and contact, and is an excellent fit in an integrated pest management (IPM) program. Success 480 SC has a favorable profile in terms of safety to humans, mammals, birds and aquatic organisms. It is active at low rates and dissipates rapidly in the environment.

The initial application window for Success 480 SC is from the Colorado potato beetles' first egg hatch to the ¼ inch long larvae stage. Depending on the severity of the infestation a second application may be required seven to ten days later. Growers should read the label for additional information on application, rate and mixing instructions and proper product use.

Production is limited for the 2003 season and Success 480 SC is only available from select retail outlets. For more information on Success 480 SC contact the Dow AgroSciences Solutions Center at 1-800-667-3852.
