Agriculture in the City Festival Promotes Modern Agriculture to Urban Public
Despite the stormy weather, hundreds of people attended the Discover Agriculture in the City festival, which explored the ways in which food and farming are all around us, every day. The full day, family oriented, urban festival was held on April 25th at the Lawson Heights Mall in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
The event offered people of all ages an understanding of modern agricultural practices, information on healthy food choices, promoted the value of Saskatchewan-made products and recognized the importance of the industry to regional, national and global economies.
Science Ambassadors from Saskatoon’s Dow AgroSciences research station shared insights crossing techniques for improving canola plants to produce healthier oils. A hands-on demonstration of crossing of male/female in flower was a highlight at the Dow AgroSciences booth, using canola plants and simple tools
