Brinjal

Brinjal is one of the most commonly grown vegetable crop of India. West Bengal, Orissa, Adhar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Karnataka and Haryana are major brinjal growing states. Brinjal has ayurvedic medicinal properties and white brinjal is good for diabetic patients. It is also a source of vitamins A, C and minerals. The name brinjal is popular in Indian subcontinents and is derived from Arabic and Sanskrit whereas the name eggplant has been derived from the shape of the fruit of some varieties, which are white and resemble in shape to chicken eggs. It is also called aubergine (French word) in Europe. It is a perennial but grown commercially as an annual crop.
