Our research in seeds helps to increase yields for growers worldwide by helping to ensure effective weed and insect control and improving plant genetics to result in more productive and resilient crops.

We’ve built our business by investing in our own research, as well as through strategic partnerships and collaborations to accelerate the pace of high-quality innovation.

Our research encompasses:


  • Seed varieties – addressing a broad spectrum of crops, including corn, soybeans, cotton, oilseeds and forage, with many elite varieties cultivated in North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia and India
  • Plant improvement – applying the tools of biotechnology to accelerate germplasm improvement and deliver novel traits that protect and enhance yield and improving the quality of plant-derived products like oils

Here are some of our highlights in generating solutions through high-quality seeds and traits:

2017
Enlist Duo™ herbicide received federal registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use on Enlist™ cotton. A full system launch of the Enlist™ weed control system for cotton commenced. The Enlist cotton trait is available in a number of high-yielding PhytoGen® brand varieties.

2016

Launch of Enlist™ cotton trait. Enlist cotton provides tolerance to 2,4-D choline, glyphosate and glufosinate.

2015

The U.S. Department of Agriculture deregulates Enlist™ cotton.

2014
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued its decision deregulating Dow AgroSciences’ Enlist™ corn and soybean traits in the United States, concluding one of the most thorough reviews of a biotech trait in history. In addition, Enlist Duo™ with 2,4D choline received regulatory approvals. Together they are part of the Enlist™ Weed Control System that combines innovative traits, herbicides and stewardship to deliver control for tough-to-control and resistant weeds.

2013
POWERCORE™, an innovative corn trait technology that provides the latest above-ground insect protection in corn via three modes of action, launches in the U.S.

2011
U.S. and Canada registrations received for Refuge Advanced® powered by SmartStax® single-bag refuge solution for corn.

Brazil receives regulatory approval for POWERCORE™ insect protection technology in corn that provides the latest above-ground insect protection in corn via three modes of action.

2009
SmartStax® corn seed receives U.S. and Canada regulatory approvals. SmartStax® combines the industry’s leading above- and below-ground insect protection and herbicide-tolerant traits for the most yield protection available to farmers.

2005
WideStrike® Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) cotton seed launches. WideStrike® insect protection provides season-long, whole-plant protection from insect feeding cotton pests. The technology uses two insect resistance traits that effectively control important cotton pests.

2003
Dow AgroSciences launches Herculex® I insect protection, a genetically engineered trait that provides resistance to European corn borer, black cutworm and other insects in corn.

1998
Nexera® Omega-9 canola seed (variety DMS-100) launches. The canola seeds pioneer and extensively commercialize healthy oils.
