But with today’s complex food choices, it can be difficult to sort reality from hype. That’s what this blog is all about – common sense, straight talk about the food on our tables and where it comes from. Our blog does not have one writer; we love to share the many different voices of our employees. Brandy Carmen lives in Brownsburg, Indiana with her daughter and works at Dow AgroSciences in Indianapolis, IN as the Administrative Specialist supporting the Director of Facilities Services and Real Estate. She is a full-time online student with Indiana State University. On the weekends, she enjoys taking small adventures and photographing historic landscapes and buildings.

Breanna Lawyer grew up on a family row crop and hog farm in central Indiana. She is a graduate of Black Hawk East and Purdue University with a Bachelor’s degree in Ag Business. A self-described “fair fanatic,” Kenda Resler Friend is also passionate about telling the story of agriculture. She has worked in agricultural public relations for 27 years, 17 of them at Dow AgroSciences, and currently leads media relations and external communication efforts for the company. Kenda earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Purdue University, and is pleased her children are continuing the family tradition of being 4-H members.

Jill Coombs lives with her husband and three children on the small island of Molokai Hawaii, where she is the Functional Project Coordinator for Dow Agrosciences. She enjoys running trait introgression projects and annoying her coworkers with her constant talking. Matt Rekeweg is U.S. Industry Relations Leader for Dow AgroSciences headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rekeweg is also a member of the US Government Affairs Team. Raised on a corn-soybean-wheat-swine farm in northeast Indiana, Rekeweg was active in all aspects of the farming operation including his personal fruit & vegetable truck farm operation started as a 4-H project and which developed into his award-winning FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience program. Matt earned a Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University. He has worked in the ag consulting and farm management industries. A former FFA State Officer, in his current community service roles, Rekeweg chairs Indiana’s Center for Agricultural Science and Heritage, serves on the Indiana State Fair Commission, and is an Assistant Scoutmaster for his son’s Boy Scout Troop.

Jenn Rasmussen, B.Sc CCA AIT, grew up on a grain farm in southern Alberta. She received her degree in agriculture in 2013 and has worked in most agriculture sectors. This is her second season at Dow AgroSciences but her 5th year in hybrid canola and her 10th year working in the agriculture industry.

Cynthia Stum, RN, COHN/CM is the US Health Services Leader for Dow AgroSciences. Sheis an RN and also have a degree in business. She is also certified in occupational health and has been at Dow AgroSciences for over 20 years. Prior to occupational health, her clinical experience has been in ICU and ER. She has two grown sons and two grandchildren and is expecting a third grandchild in March. She loves spending time with her family at the lake, riding bikes and camping.

Adelai Swanson was born and raised on her family’s row crop and hog farm in Galt, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State University in May with degrees in Agricultural Business and Public Relations. Ricardo Ekmay, Associate Research Scientist, joined Dow AgroSciences in 2012. His current role focuses on nutritional assessments for global regulatory submissions, but also provides direction for the development of nutritionally enhanced products. Ricardo received his Bachelors of Science in Animal Science from Cornell University (2004) and his Masters of Science (2008) and Doctorate (2011) in Poultry Science from the University of Arkansas. Prior to his arrival at Dow AgroSciences, Ricardo completed his post-doctoral studies at Cornell. His area of expertise is in animal nutrition with an emphasis on nutrient partitioning, reproduction, and nutrient modeling. Ricardo’s current work has also expanded his focus into human nutrition. He also devotes his time to community outreach and the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education through his involvement with the Dow AgroSciences’ Science Ambassadors. The Science Ambassadors strive to engage the next generation of scientists through hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations at school and STEM events. Ricardo is also an active member of the Dow AgroSciences Hispanic Latin Network (HLN)—that focuses on strengthening and leveraging the diversity of cultures, experiences and professional skills within Dow AgroSciences’ Hispanic-Latin community.

David Pinzon grew up in Bogota, Colombia and moved to Canada in 2009 with his wife to study a PhD at the University of Alberta. They had their first child 6 months ago. “It is a constant learning to find out what’s the best for her, that’s why being able to share my experience with other parents is gratifying.” David dedicated 12 years of his life to become a scientist, no one taught him to be a dad, other than the example of his parents, with these many challenges and new opportunities to learn came up, with the priority to do the best for his daughter. “Now I have the pleasure to see the huge amount of scientific support needed to prove GMOs and pesticides are safe for humans and the environment, so I can take decisions and pass along my knowledge to hose that are eager to learn.

Holly Loucas is a 44yr old mother of 2 who has spent the last 20+ years doing research developing and using genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and molecular biology at the University of Guelph and University of Florida. She is now employed as a Customer Agronomist with Dow Seeds, which is a seed company that is owned by Dow AgroSciences. She is a dedicated supporter of the safety of GMO crops.

Joe Krkoska has been with Dow for 33 years, starting in Dow R&D in Midland, before having numerous Manufacturing assignments in various businesses. He and his family relocated to the UK King’s Lynn location for 4 years where he was Site Leader and BML, and then moved to our Pittsburg, CA site before coming to Indy. Joe is currently Global Supply Chain Director for DAS Crop Protection.

LeAnn Bruns grew up on a diversified farm of corn, soybeans, market cattle, and hogs in Eastern Nebraska. She studied AgBusiness at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has an MBA from the University of Findlay. She started her career selling Mycogen seed to farmers in Northwest Ohio and recently has worked in marketing and supply chain for Dow AgroSciences. She is a 33 year old wife and mother of 2 active boys living in the suburbs of Indianapolis. Her interests revolve around food and the great outdoors but usually classified as cooking, gardening, hiking, and biking.

Born in Rensselaer, Indiana, Leslie Rusk has always had a knack for creating and developing new ideas. After graduating high school, Leslie attended Indiana University Bloomington where she studied visual communications and managed and operated a small business in the downtown area. In 2011, Leslie relocated to the Northwest Indiana region where she began work at Fair Oaks Farms as the Adventure Coordinator and then quickly moved on to her marketing and event planning role with the company. Leslie was recently nominated as one of Northwest Indiana’s Most Influential Women in the up and coming category for marketing. Leslie is currently the Marketing and Events Director at Fair Oaks Farms – an agritourism destination located in Northwest Indiana.
