Mycogen Seeds, a retail seed company of Dow AgroSciences LLC, announces that its grain corn hybrids with Herculex® RW Rootworm Protection and Herculex XTRA Insect Protection, recently received regulatory approvals for grain import into Japan.
"These approvals signal the growing acceptance for the use of these new technologies," says Terry Gardner, Marketing Specialist, Mycogen Seeds. "Additionally, with these approvals, Mycogen Seeds is now shipping seed containing Herculex RW and Herculex XTRA to customers."
Herculex® RW Rootworm Protection gives growers powerful, season-long protection against western, northern and Mexican corn rootworm larvae, including late-season rootworm
larval hatches. For the 2006 growing season, Mycogen Seeds will have several hybrids with Herculex RW available to growers.
"Herculex RW has performed very well in field trials, providing consistent protection in light to heavy rootworm pressure, and in wet or dry conditions," says Gardner.
Mycogen Seeds will also have several hybrids with Herculex® XTRA available for the 2006 growing season. These hybrids combine the rootworm protection of Herculex RW with Herculex I Insect Protection, providing protection against corn borer, black cutworm, western bean cutworm and other destructive pests.
All Herculex RW and Herculex XTRA hybrids have LibertyLink® technology, which makes them tolerant to over-the-top applications of LIBERTY® herbicide.
In addition, all Mycogen™ brand Herculex RW and Herculex XTRA hybrids include Cruiser Extreme™ Pak. This seed-applied insecticide protects germinating seed from damage and stand loss caused by wireworms, seedcorn maggots and other secondary pests. It also features Maxim® XL, Apron XL® and Dynasty® seed treatment fungicides to control a wide disease spectrum.
Since European Union import approval is pending, Herculex RW and Herculex XTRA will carry the Market Choices® designation. Grain containing either product must be marketed domestically, fed on-farm or delivered to elevators or other markets where neither the grain nor its processed products (e.g. gluten) will be shipped to the EU. The developers also continue to seek import approvals for other important U.S. export markets.
Mycogen Seeds is a retail seed company of Dow AgroSciences LLC and a developer and marketer of leading grain corn hybrids, the market leader in Silage-Specific™ corn hybrids and sunflower hybrids, as well as an industry leader in canola, alfalfa, soybeans and sorghum.
