Hutchins First Private Sector Entomologist to Be Named Fellow

Dow AgroSciences is proud to announce that Scott Hutchins, Ph.D., global Crop Protection R&D leader for Dow AgroSciences, has been named a Fellow of the Entomological Society of America (ESA). This top honor recognizes his outstanding contributions that have impacted research and development in the field of entomology over the past two decades.

The distinction of ESA Fellow is the highest honor within the profession and recognizes excellence in one or more applications of research, teaching, extension, or administration of entomology (the scientific study of insects and their impact on human welfare). Hutchins joins an elite group of internationally-renowned entomologists who have reached this prestigious status and is the first career private sector entomologist to have been elected as a Fellow of the ESA since the honor was established in 1934.

"He is an unwavering advocate and steward of scientific excellence, and while entomology is clearly the core of his personal scientific passion, he is very proactive in influencing and shaping significant science contributions across all disciplines."

Hutchins began his career with Dow in 1987 as a field biologist in Minneapolis, Minn. His career has included various roles with responsibilities spanning Human Resources, Global Product Development, Six Sigma, Supply Research & Development, and other disciplines. Hutchins holds a bachelor’s degree in entomology from Auburn University, a master’s degree in entomology from Mississippi State University, and a Ph.D. in entomology from Iowa State University. He is an adjunct professor within the Department of Entomology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and has authored or co-authored more than 100 refereed articles, reviews, or scientific presentations in the areas of integrated pest management (IPM) and bio-economics. Hutchins was selected as the Outstanding Young Alumnus by Iowa State University in 1997 and served as president of the ESA in 2007.
