Avicta® Complete Cotton nematicide/insecticide/fungicide combination and PhytoGen® cottonseed collected more than $9,000 in monetary donations and cotton goods during the “Fiber of Giving” cotton drive to benefit critically ill children and their families through the Believe In Tomorrow™ Children’s Foundation. In addition, Avicta Complete Cotton and PhytoGen cottonseed, an affiliate of Dow AgroSciences, jointly contributed $5,000 to the cause, for a total of $14,000 contributed to Believe In Tomorrow.
The “Fiber of Giving” campaign, which centered around the Beltwide Cotton Conference and Mid-South Farm and Gin show, produced monetary donations and cotton goods that will be used to outfit 37 bathrooms and 83 beds in six Believe In Tomorrow housing facilities with cotton sheets, towels and blankets. These donations will help increase the quality of the accommodations for families staying near their critically ill children during treatment, as well as enjoying respite housing.
“PhytoGen is excited about the success of the campaign and the positive impact our efforts will have on our neighbors in need,” said Duane Canfield, general manager and portfolio marketing leader, PhytoGen. “Syngenta and PhytoGen are dedicated to supporting the cotton industry, as well as improving the lives of others. We continually seek new opportunities to benefit our industry and our communities.”
In addition to being the exclusive provider of hospital housing for the Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Believe In Tomorrow has five beautiful respite properties at the mountains and the beach critically ill children and their families can use year-round, free of charge to escape the stress that overwhelms families facing a child's medical crisis. Believe In Tomorrow's Hands On™ Adventure programs give children confronting a life-threatening illness exciting, once-in-alifetime opportunities; like flying in a blimp, or going behind the scenes of the toughest sport on dirt with the Professional Bull Riders, or out on the speedway with the National Hot Rod Association®, to help them focus on the future.
“Together with PhytoGen, Believe In Tomorrow and generous donors, Avicta Complete Cotton helped make a difference in the lives of children and their families,” said Matt Jones, crop manager, Syngenta. “We’re proud to have been a part of this cotton drive and to be part of an industry that is so caring and giving. We look forward to continuing this momentum in the future.”
