Caretakers of the Land

ESA Scupture

Standing in the midst of rolling acres of swaying grass, an old rancher points out to his grandson that conserving the land insures future generations the ability to produce.

These words inspired Vern Friesen, Nebraska farmer, cattleman and western artist, as he sculpted Caretakers of the Land.

Dow AgroSciences commissioned Friesen to create a lasting legacy to national and regional winners of the Environmental Stewardship Award, honored annually by the National Cattlemen 's Beef Association and Dow AgroSciences.

As sponsor of this program, Dow AgroSciences believes it’s important to properly recognize the dedication to stewardship shown, not only by the award winners, but by the entire ranching community.

Friesen operates the farm where he grew up near Henderson, Nebraska. He raises row crops and runs a commercial cow/calf herd. In addition to sculpting, much of his work is in oil paintings. You can reach him at his gallery in Henderson at (402) 723-4977.
