Field Bindweed
Family: Convolvulaceae Structure: Vining with smooth stems that grow 2–7 feet long, twining upward on the other plants or growing prostrate on ground. Life Cycle: Perennial, reproducing by seeds or rootstocks. Leaves: Dark green, alternate, varying from bell to arrowhead in shape. Flowers: White or pink, 1 inch, funnel-shaped, with two bracts below flower. Roots: Extensive, sometimes going down 20–30 feet. Treatment: Application Timing: For best results, treat in spring or when weed is actively growing, such as post-harvest after the plant has produced 8–12-inch runners, in mid-to-full bloom. See product specimen label for crop rotation restrictions and chem-fallow program recommendations. Recommendation: Broadcast. 1–2 pints per acre of Tordon 22K herbicide tank-mixed with 1 lb of 2,4-D. Lower rates require annual retreatment for several years. See product label for rates in grain fields, fallow and between crops of small grains OR |
