Early Post Control Research

For lawn care operators who are late with the first application, Dimension® specialty herbicide provides early postemergence control of crabgrass during initial growth, the 1- to 3-leaf stage. Essentially, this offers two to eight additional weeks (depending on climatic conditions and growth rates) to make applications and still control crabgrass.

Virginia Tech Research
Independent university research shows that Dimension typically achieves 85 percent postemergent control when applied during the early stages, prior to tillering of crabgrass and used according to label instructions.

Early Postemergent Crabgrass Control Chart

In an article about crabgrass from the January 2003 issue of Grounds Maintenance, Dr. Jeffrey Derr, of Virginia Tech, notes that Dimension provides preemergence and early postemergence crabgrass control. Says Derr: "Dimension may stunt growth of crabgrass when applied after tillering, but generally will not provide acceptable control. Therefore, you should apply this compound prior to tillering. An advantage of Dimension is that it can provide three or more months of residual crabgrass control. Crabgrass is one of the few weeds Dimension will control postemergence. You can control crabgrass for most of the growing season with one Dimension application appropriately timed after emergence."

Crabgrass at the 2-leaf stage: an ideal time to apply Dimension for early post emergence control.

Crabgrass at the tillered stage: it's too late to achieve postemergence control with Dimension.
