Whisper Rock Golf Club

Golfers who tee off at the prestigious Whisper Rock Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., expect the "pure golf experience" the club promises. It's the responsibility of Jay Pock, golf course superintendent, to keep the course's 36-holes in top playing condition. So when Poa annua invaded several holes and infested brand-new fairways, he got nervous.

Pock calls Poa annua a nemesis to private clubs because it can wipe out entire greens. "If you have Poa on fairways, eventually you'll have it on greens. The seed heads are so small they stay on shoes and move all over," says Pock.

Pock tested and tried Dimension^® specialty herbicide for Poa control. He applied Dimension in late summer, seven weeks before he overseeded fairways with ryegrass. Pock figures a preemergence application of Dimension helped reduce the Poa annua population by as much as 40 percent to 50 percent last year, and he expects even better results this year.

"Dimension is our best management tool for Poa," Pock says.
