How Team Pro works
Team® Pro must be applied prior to weed seed germination and activated by at least one-half inch of rainfall or irrigation. Once activated, Team Pro sets up a solid "weed control zone" about one-half inch below the soil surface. Team Pro stops weeds from germinating by inhibiting cell division in the seed as soon as it begins to root.
Product of choice
Since its introduction, Team Pro has been proven effective at stopping troublesome grassy weeds, even in areas of heavy infestations. Its unsurpassed control of grassy and key broadleaf weeds, long residual and safety to nearby ornamentals have made it a part of professionals' product portfolios.
Active ingredients
The active ingredients in Team Pro are benefin, known as Balan® herbicide, and trifluralin, known as Treflan® herbicide. Balan provides quick activity on crabgrass and other annual weeds. Treflan is well known for its control of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds. Together, this power of two makes one formidable crabgrass preventer.
Team Pro is relatively water insoluble and binds tightly to soil particles. This means Team Pro tends to stay where it's applied and resists moving or leaching out of the weed germination zone, even in heavy rainfall or during irrigation.
When to apply
Apply Team Pro approximately one to two weeks before weed seeds germinate. This generally occurs when the soil temperature is at least 50°F for three or more days. Apply Team Pro in spring for control of summer annual grasses such as crabgrass, foxtail and barnyardgrass, and in late spring for late-spring or early-summer germinating annual grasses such as goosegrass. Apply in late summer or early fall to control annual bluegrass (Poa annua).
How to apply
For uniform application, use either a drop-type or rotary spreader designed for the application of granular herbicides.
Turfgrass recommendations
Team Pro is labeled for use on all established cool- and warm-season turfgrasses.
Precautions
While Team Pro can be applied with little concern about damaging even sensitive turfgrasses, some precautions remain:
- Do not use on newly sprigged areas of bermudagrass, St. Augustinegrass or centipedegrass until these turfs are well established.
- Delay reseeding for at least six weeks after applying the lowest rates of Team Pro herbicide, and 12 to 16 weeks after the highest recommended rates.
