B. Milkweed

Sorry, but that’s incorrect. The weed pictured is common purslane (Portulaca oleracea), a summer annual that typically is known for its distinct succulent foliage. Seedlings are oblong, succulent and without hairs. Leaves are alternate, rounded at the apex and narrowed to the base. Young leaves have a maroon tint on the lower surface. Purplish-red to green stems are smooth, prostrate and heavily branched without hairs. Single flowers or flower clusters, two to five, are found at the stem tips. Small, yellow flowers bloom from May through September on hot, sunny days. Purslane reproduces by seed and sometimes by stem fragments.

Use Dimension® specialty herbicide for season-long preemergence control of purslane in turf and landscape. For maximum control, apply when soil temperatures reach 55 degrees Fahrenheit in the spring. Consult the product label for recommended rates for your area.

You also can use Snapshot® specialty herbicide to control purslane in landscape for up to eight months. Snapshot should be applied in the spring prior to germination of purslane, and always prior to germination of target weeds. You can apply Snapshot in spring, late summer, early fall, or any time immediately after cultivation.
