At this low level of infestation it is best advised to spot treat the docks with Grazon* 90. This will provide good control of the existing weeds so preventing them from spreading and becoming an expensive problem in future years.
1.25-2.5 t DM/ha (0.5-1.0 t DM/acre)
This level of infestation and potential loss justifies the overall treatment of the infested areas. Talk to your agrochemical supplier regarding the use of translocated products such as Doxstar*, Forefront* and Pastor* to control the docks and stop them spreading further. Fully translocated herbicides such as Doxstar, Forefront and Pastor are the most cost-effective products to use because they penetrate down into the extensive root systems of the docks without checking the growth of the grass. Independent trials have shown the benefits not only of good control of the weeds by these products but also the extra grass yield gained from controlling the weeds.
2.5-5.0 t DM/ha (1.0-2.0 t DM/acre)
The successful control of this level of dock infestation will require a programme of herbicide applications over a number of years. Fully translocated herbicides such as Doxstar*, Forefront* and Pastor* are the most cost-effective products to use because they penetrate down into the extensive root systems of the docks without checking the growth of the grass. Independent trials have shown the benefits not only of good control of the weeds by these products but also the extra grass yield gained from controlling the weeds.
over 5.0 t DM/ha (2.0 t DM/acre)
This is a very serious dock problem! The quickest and most effective means to bring the field back into full production in this situation is to reseed the field if possible. This allows the use of glyphosate to kill off the established docks and so allows a clean start for the new seeds.
