Lower cost cleavers control with new Atlantis tank-mix

UK - April 10, 2006

Growers still waiting to apply Atlantis WG for blackgrass control can now cut the cost of cleavers control by tank-mixing with Starane XL (florasulam + fluroxypyr).

“Useful levels of cleavers control can be achieved, even with reduced rates of Starane XL, when used in tank mix with Atlantis WG, without reducing the level of cleavers kill,” says Dow AgroSciences’ technical services leader David Roberts.

The recently-approved tank mix provides good value for money and is cleared for use up to GS 39 on winter wheat crops, the latest timing permitted for Atlantis.

Another recent approval allows Starane XL to be used alone up to GS 45 in winter wheat.

In warm conditions on actively growing cleavers Starane XL is usually applied at 1.25 l/ha, or at a higher rate of 1.8 l/ha on large, slow growing, frost-hardened cleavers with in cool conditions.

The new tank-mix with Atlantis WG allows these rates to be lowered to 1.0 l/ha when applications are made under favourable growing conditions.

“This represents a significant cost reduction while still achieving the highest levels of cleavers kill, plus excellent control of volunteer rape, charlock, chickweed and mayweed species.  Your BASIS-qualified advisor should be able to recommend the correct rate for each situation when using this new tank-mix,” says Mr Roberts.
