A Star is born ...UK - December 11, 2008 BROADWAY* STAR is the first product in Europe to use the new Dow AgroSciences' molecule pyroxsulam as an effective herbicide for the challenges of wild oats, ryegrasses, brome and a range of other weeds in winter wheat. Broadway Star is a contact herbicide containing florasulam and pyroxsulam in a formulation designed specifically for the UK market. It can be applied in autumn or spring to wheat crops between GS11 and GS32. Broadway Star is effective on actively growing grassweeds from two leaves up to mid-tillering. Although best control of great and sterile brome is achieved from autumn treatment. Trials have shown that Broadway Star offers levels of weed control that are superior, or at least equivalent, to current market standards. Broadway Star has the unique feature of rotational flexibility. A wide range of crops, including peas, beans and potatoes can be grown after a Broadway Star treatment without any specific cultivation requirement. Dow AgroSciences marketing specialist James Knight said: "Pyroxsulam is a molecule with considerable potential. It has already proved a great success in other parts of the world, especially Canada and the United States. "Broadway Star, under the code name GF1364, has been demonstrated at the Cereals event and at various other sites to farmers and Dow AgroSciences distributors. As a new offering in the marketplace it has attracted considerable interest. "Broadway Star will play an important role in weed control programmes in winter wheat. Used in the spring it will provide many growers with a one-spray solution to clean up grass and broad leaved weed problems." Broadway Star will be supplied in 1.06kg packs, sufficient to treat four hectares at the recommended 265g/ha application rate. It needs to be applied with an adjuvant, is rainfast within one hour and is LERAP B. "In summary, Broadway Star is an exciting and new solution to spring grass weeds control in winter wheat," said Mr Knight. "It offers control of ryegrass, wild oats and brome as well as a wide range of broad leaved weeds. Broadway Star has a very favourable following crop profile with no cultivation restrictions."
