Boxer proves a winner

UK - April 27, 2009

Mrs Needham, from Louth, Lincolnshire was the recent lucky winner of a Dow AgroSciences laptop after completing a quiz on herbicide Boxer*.

Mrs Needham said: “I have entered lots of competitions like this before and this is the first time I’ve won anything. I’m absolutely delighted and will be using the laptop in the business for general farm accounting.”

Mrs Needham and husband Alistair along with his father Ralph farm about 1,350 acres and also have a herd of pedigree Charolais cattle. They grow winter wheat, winter barley, winter oilseed rape and a small amount of winter oats.

Husband Alistair is responsible for all the spraying on their farm and Boxer is one of a range of products he uses to tackle the weeds in their cereal crops.

Ken Chappell, the independent agronomist who advises the Needhams commented: “Treatment of weeds started with a pre-emergence herbicide in the autumn of pendimethalin + flufenacet for the control of blackgrass in the winter barley and for the last time we used IPU + trifluralin for the winter wheat.

“In the spring I recommend a tank mix of Boxer on the wheat to tackle the blackgrass and the broadleaved weeds and Starane XL* for the broadleaved weeds in the barley.”
