A star at spring cleaningUK - May 02, 2009 A spring clean for winter wheat crops, is the promise that Dow AgroSciences' new herbicide, Broadway Star, promises. Containing pyroxsulam, it will effectively control wild oats and ryegrass, but is also effective against a very wide range of broadleaved weeds. This means growers can achieve a spring weed clean-up in a single spray. In trials, compared to market standards, Broadway Star proved just as effective against wild oats and even better in controlling ryegrass. But the real bonus is its effectiveness against a very wide range of broadleaved weeds. This means growers may well achieve a spring weed clean-up in a single spray. “Having seen the trial results from ADAS Boxworth, I’m sure Broadway Star will do what it says on the tin,” says crop protection specialist, HL Hutchinson’s Field Sales Manager and Agronomist Phillip Styles. “I am recommending growers give it a try where they have a ryegrass, wild oats or soft brome problems; especially where they also face broadleaved weeds, as it offers a really cost-effective solution.” Dow AgroSciences’ technical expert Stuart Jackson adds: “Broadway Star, applied between GS11 and GS32 is ideal when targeting wild oats and ryegrass as well as broadleaved weeds, such as cleavers, speedwell, poppy, common chickweed, field pansy, geranium, mayweed and volunteer oilseed rape. “For those growers who managed to apply residual treatments last autumn, it will help prevent the populations of the key grass weeds building up to create ever bigger headaches,” he says. Broadway Star should be applied at 265g/ha with an adjuvant, at a fine to medium spray quality.” |
