Local Farmer ‘Boxes Clever’ to Take National PrizeUK - March 16, 2010 A farm manager from Pleshey near Chelmsford has won one of the top prizes in a national competition run by Dow AgroSciences. Richard Butler won a laptop computer after he entered the competition on a leaflet promoting the company’s Boxer herbicide, part of the company’s Starane range. Boxer is designed to treat cleavers and other broadleaved weeds, this product can be used early in the season before weeds start to compete with the crop and, therefore, reduce its yield. Richard said: “I don’t normally enter these competitions, but thought that I would have a go on this occasion, and I was delighted to win.” Richard accepted the laptop from Dow’s Regional Business Manager, Andrew Rhodes. He manages Woodfield Farm, which consists of some 1850 acres growing winter wheat, oilseed rape, winter beans and spring peas. Richard said: “We use Dow’s Starane range of products extensively on the farm, and they do an excellent job for us.” |
