Growers in the Anglia region need to start tackling wild oats, ryegrass and bromes

Growers in the Anglia region need to start tackling wild oats, ryegrass and bromes as the spring season for grass-weed control in winter wheat gets under way, according to Dow AgroSciences regional business manager John Humphreys.

Mr Humphreys is recommending Broadway Star this spring, a formulation of pyroxsulam and florasulam, as the best product to effectively control wild oats, ryegrass and bromes with the bonus of controlling broad-leaved weeds as well.

“We’ve seen quite a lot of Broadway Star being recommended by independent agronomists – it has the bonus that it can be tank mixed with a range of commonly used fungicides,” says Mr Humphreys.

“That flexibility, in a year where the weather has been variable and crops are running relatively early, is being welcomed.

“Growers are looking to get as much acreage covered as possible when the weather will allow it. Broadway Star controls broadleaved weeds, wild oats, ryegrass and bromes. The mild winter means these weeds are motoring on ahead a little earlier than normal, so farmers really need to crack on now.”
