Worcestershire thumbs up for Broadway Sunrise

UK - November 19, 2012

In Worcestershire a spring treatment of Broadway Sunrise has proved its efficacy against blackgrass, wild oats and cleavers in winter wheat.

Agronomist Rufus Ulyet, of Wynnstay Group plc, saw excellent control from a March application of the Dow AgroSciences’ herbicide Broadway Sunrise.
He says: “I tried Broadway Sunrise on two farms and it did a fantastic job on everything. I used it because there was a mixed population of problem weeds like blackgrass, wild oats and brome species in winter wheat and was very pleased – it worked really well.”

Mr Ulyet noticed how clean the fields were when a missed patch in one field around an electric pole brought to light just how well the product worked.
“There was a vivid contrast where the field had been treated and reinforced where it had been missed as there was a mass of brome and wild oats. I was impressed by Broadway Sunrise’s performance and didn’t have to apply any further herbicide, even big cleavers were killed,” says Mr Ulyet.

“I’ll certainly look to use Broadway Sunrise again this spring – I planned to use it this autumn but due to the continual wet weather autumn applications have been curtailed,” he says.

Dow AgroSciences’ cereal herbicide specialist Stuart Jackson is advising farmers that despite the bad weather there is a good opportunity for using pyroxsulam-based products such as Broadway Sunrise and its stable mate UNITE.
“Optimal timing for both products is when the weeds have germinated but before they get too large, which is ideal for this season’s conditions,” he says.

Both Broadway Sunrise and UNITE have been designed specifically for the needs of the UK grower and combine the tried and tested pyroxsulam contact activity with pendimethalin and flupyrsulfuron-methyl respectively. This allows farmers to choose the product which best fits their field situation or optimised herbicide programme.

Broadway Sunrise and UNITE offer growers excellent value for money through extensive broadleaved weed and grassweed control, without compromising on blackgrass, the number one priority.

Mr Jackson says: “Farmers get more value from Broadway Sunrise and UNITE compared to competitor blackgrass products as they also tackles ryegrass, bromes and wild oats, plus a wide range of broadleaved weeds.”

Both products have proven to be as effective against blackgrass in winter wheat as any other post emergence product in trials results and commercial user feedback.
