Very high leatherjacket populations found in grassland: Act NowUK - March 19, 2007 Leatherjacket numbers in grassland areas are near an all-time high and pose a serious threat to grassland productivity, according to the latest data from SAC. “These exceptionally high leatherjacket populations require prompt action as damage is already being seen,” warns Dow AgroSciences’ Regional Business Manager Iain Sampson. “Farmers should check their fields now. Look out for large numbers of rooks and crows feeding on the larvae – a classic indicator of infestations. Where there is a problem, use Dursban WG at 1.0 kg/ha in at least 200 litres of water. Heavy infestations should be treated as soon as ground conditions permit.”
