Best practice for herbicide applicationsUK - November 21, 2008 As temperature and soil conditions become suitable for propyzamide applications to winter oilseed rape over the next few weeks, Dow AgroSciences is reminding growers to follow best practice. Dow AgroSciences' Robin Bentley, said "Propyzamide is strongly absorbed by soil particles, so good soil management is as important as correct product handling and correct application technique to keep it out of the water. Growers should follow the Best Practice advice from the Voluntary Initiative, If weather look unsettled, re-think the timing of propyzamide applications as rain water run-off post application may lead to presence in water courses and this is something that must be avoided." Dow is carrying out studies, with the aim of better understanding the routes propyzamide takes to water and the effects of buffer strips. It is also looking at formulation technology to reduce active ingredient movement from field to water, as well as alternative mixtures, sequences and timing.
