New Glyphomax® XRT, Durango™ from Dow AgroSciences Issued EPA Registration

Retailers Now Have Two Glyphosate Herbicides to Sell to Two Distinctly Different Growers

Indianapolis, IN - October 19, 2004

Dow AgroSciences announced today that the EPA has issued federal registration for its new high-load glyphosate formulation that will be marketed under the brand names Glyphomax® XRT and Durango™ herbicides. These products contain a 5.4-pound formulation of glyphosate and offer the convenience of more treated acres per gallon at a rate of 1½ pints, or 24 ounces, per acre, as compared to the 4-pound formulations currently in the market.

Most importantly for retailers, these two brands of glyphosates fit the profiles of two well-defined segments of growers in today's marketplace - one that wants a fully backed and serviced brand of glyphosate versus a grower who wants no service and is purchasing strictly on price, says Nate Miller, marketing specialist for Dow AgroSciences.

"Retailers have made it clear to us that they have to satisfy two segments of growers - those who appreciate value and retailer support and growers who only want product with no support," Miller says. "We listened. We created Glyphomax XRT for retailers to sell to growers who want service and support and Durango for growers who don't."

Miller describes Glyphomax XRT and Durango as high-performance alternatives to today's other high-load formulations. While weed control will be the same compared to other leading glyphosate herbicides, he says there are a couple of things that set these new products apart from other high-load formulations.

"First, we believe applicators will come to appreciate the easy-to-measure rate of 1½ pints per acre," Miller says. "Second, since both of these products are surfactant-loaded, Durango becomes one of the few non-service, high-load glyphosates that's ready to use without the need to add surfactant."

These latest advances in the glyphosate market consist of an existing IPA salt, the same salt used in the consistently effective, popular brand Glyphomax Plus herbicide. They also contain a new, proprietary surfactant package for ease of use and maximum control.

Approved for use on all Roundup Ready® crops, including soybeans, cotton, corn and canola, Glyphomax XRT and Durango offer non-selective control of more than 100 perennial and annual broadleaf weeds and grasses.

"Bringing Glyphomax XRT and Durango to the market is part of our commitment to our retailers and their growers to invest in improved formulations and products," Miller adds. "What's important is retailers can meet the demands of two distinctly different growers with products from a single company that's focused on supporting their business while meeting their growers' needs."

Miller says Dow AgroSciences urges retailers to work with growers to use Glyphomax® XRT and Durango™ herbnicides with glyphosate stewardship in mind. He recommends rotating glyphosate with soil-applied residual herbicides or as tank-mix partners, and that retailers work with growers on choosing the Roundup Ready system that best fits their cropping system.

Dow AgroSciences offers a complete lineup of residual herbicides that complements the efficacy of glyphosate on tough weeds like marestail, morningglory, lambsquarters, common and giant ragweed, waterhemp, velvetleaf and much more. These products include FirstRate®, Python® WDG and Pendimax® herbicides for soybeans; and Keystone®, Keystone LA, Surpass®, FulTime®, TopNotch®, Hornet® WDG and Python WDG herbicides in corn.
