Web-based agronomy training for FazorUK - July 19, 2006 Dow AgroSciences are inviting potato advisors and growers to complete the web-based training module on Fazor to help them optimise volunteer potato and sprout suppression and also earn CPD BASIS points. The module is now live on-line at http://www.fazor.co.uk. "Fazor is an in-crop foliar treatment for the control of potato volunteers which can help suppress sprouting in store. It works by interfering with tuber metabolism, stopping cell division and respiration and so suppressing sprouting either in the field or in store. This season, because it looks to be a hot summer, growers need to be extra careful when applying Fazor to achieve maximum efficacy. The web-enabled training module ensures that advisors and users of Fazor understand how it works and how they can get the best from it. Those completing the module will be entitled to one CPD BASIS point, and, whilst stocks last, a Fazor Technical Guide and a Fazorometer to gauge tuber sizes," says John Sellars, Marketing Specialist for Dow AgroSciences. Fazor contains 60% w/w maleic hydrazide, formulated as a water-soluble granule. It is recommended on second earlies and maincrop potatoes (but not on seed or first earlies) as well as bulb onions, garlic and shallots. It has SOLAs in parsnips and carrots. In potatoes, Fazor is recommended at a dose rate of 5 kg/ha in a minimum of 350 litres of water at least 3 weeks before haulm destruction. (5 weeks is optimal and has been shown to give better control of sprouting) Fazor should be applied to actively growing foliage when marketable tubers are at least 25 mm in diameter. It has a harvest interval of 3 weeks. It is packed in a 2.5 kg bag. |
