Amenity OrnamentalsIntroduction ![]() Weeds can spoil and take over newly designed and established plantings of shrubs and trees, reducing the overall effect of the landscape. New plants can be quickly out-competed, which can lead to them dying. Additionally, weeds can trap litter, which can subsequently lead to increased vermin. Once weeds are established they can be difficult to remove and need a variety of control methods. It is recommended that a herbicide is applied immediately after planting, once the soil has settled and the roots of the shrubs and trees are completely covered by soil. Repeat applications are then recommended when the plants are established. Product ChoiceFor plantings over one year old, a tank mix of Flexidor* 125 with Kerb* Flo, can be safely applied around most shrubs. Due to the large number of species of trees and shrubs, it is advisable to confirm selectivity and safety by initially carrying out a small scale trial. Established broad-leaved weeds will need to be controlled by hand-weeding or a directed application of glyphosate.
