Dow AgroSciences UK manufacture and supply key products for use by UK potato growers.

Our product range, based on active ingredients such as mancozeb, chlorpyrifos, 1,3-dichloropropene and maleic hydrazide, has been developed to address many of the most commonly occurring threats to yield and profitability in UK potato production.

Use the options on the left of this page to find further information about the biology and control of potato blight, cutworm and potato cyst nematode and for advice about suppressing sprout production in stored potatoes and reducing the burden of volunteer potatoes in following crops.

Important Information

Arable advisors are aware of following crop restrictions associated with arable herbicides. Herbicides used in grassland also have following crop restrictions, but it is less well known that there are restrictions on the use of manure and slurry from animals fed with grass treated with some herbicides.

Products containing active ingredients that have the potential to be found in manure and slurry have label warnings limiting the use of that manure and slurry. Aminopyralid-containing products, e.g. Forefront* and Pharaoh*, have such warning phrases.

Potato growers and livestock farmers may not be aware of these limitations.

Action Points:

  • If it is intended to grow potatoes after grass, check what herbicides were used. Some may have following crop restrictions.
  • If manure or slurry is to be applied to ground intended for potatoes, check what products were used on any grass fed to livestock that have produced the manure/slurry. There may be limitations on the use of the manure/slurry.
  • If in doubt, ask your agronomist.
