QUINTEC® Fungicide Receives Supplemental Labeling for Powdery Mildew Control in Various CropsIndianapolis, IN - August 26, 2009 QUINTEC® fungicide recently received national supplemental labeling for the control of powdery mildew in artichoke, winter squash, gourds, pumpkins and stone fruits. "We are extremely excited that QUINTEC has received this supplemental labeling," says Susan Carney, marketing specialist for Dow AgroSciences. "QUINTEC is already a proven performer against powdery mildew in grapes and will provide fruit and vegetable growers with an excellent tool for disease management." QUINTEC is the only fungicide in the quinoline class of chemistry. Its unique mode of action is different from other classes of chemistry used to control powdery mildew, making it an effective fit as a rotational tool in a resistance management program. Dr. Brian Olson, field scientist for Dow AgroSciences, says QUINTEC® fungicide can be a key weapon against powdery mildew because of its ability to redistribute itself on the crop and foliage. "After application, QUINTEC moves around the crop by volatilizing off the plant tissue. This volatilized material is then re-absorbed on adjacent untreated plant tissue," Olson says. "This redistribution allows QUINTEC to cover and protect areas of the crop not initially covered with spray application." QUINTEC, registered under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Reduced Risk Initiative, offers growers an extended spray interval of 10 to 14 days. Additionally, it is rainfast within one hour of application. Applications of QUINTEC, a Group 13 fungicide, should be alternated with different modes of action to avoid resistance and made before visible symptoms of powdery mildew appear. Growers should not make more than two consecutive applications of QUINTEC® fungicide. For more information on QUINTEC, visit www.QuintecFungicide.com.
