Dow AgroSciences and USA Rice Federation to Award $8,500 in Scholarships

Indianapolis - May 02, 2011

Dow AgroSciences is once again proud to sponsor the USA Rice Federation 2011 scholarship program to recognize and encourage students to continue their education. Applications are now available for students in rice-producing states who will be high school seniors the 2011-2012 school year. USA Rice will award the three scholarships totaling $8,500 based on entries promoting September as National Rice Month.

“With the generous support provided by Dow AgroSciences, we can recognize the efforts of deserving students who have done an outstanding job promoting rice in their local communities during September National Rice Month,” says USA Rice Federation President and CEO Betsy Ward.

“We thank Dow AgroSciences for its demonstrated commitment not only to the scholarship program, but to the entire rice industry.”

The National Rice Month Scholarship program plays a valuable role in highlighting the importance of U.S. rice production as well as the nutritional benefits of rice. The scholarships were created to encourage young people to learn more about the value of rice in their home states and across the nation.

“Dow AgroSciences is extremely grateful for the opportunity to support such a great program,” says Jim Parker, portfolio marketing leader for rice herbicides at Dow AgroSciences. “We are committed to the future of the rice industry and will continue to invest in the rice producers and consumers of tomorrow.”

Each student entering the scholarship contest will be required to develop and conduct an activity during National Rice Month that promotes U.S.-grown rice. Entries will be judged on creativity and impact in promoting rice during the month and the importance of rice in the entrant’s state. Although students are encouraged to obtain applications before the end of the school year, actual promotions must be conducted during September and submitted by Oct. 14, 2011.

The grand-prize winner will receive a $4,000 scholarship as well as a trip with a chaperone to the award ceremony at the 2011 USA Rice Outlook Conference this December in Austin, Texas. The second-place winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship, and the third-place winner, a $1,500 scholarship. Interested participants may visit www.USARice.com for a scholarship entry form and further guidelines.
