New BLACKHAWK™ Insecticide Now Available

BLACKHAWK offers consistent control of foliage-feeding pests

Indianapolis - February 15, 2012

Producers now have another effective weapon to add to their resistance management arsenal. BLACKHAWK™ insecticide from Dow AgroSciences provides consistent control of many foliage-feeding insects in a variety of crops, including potatoes and peanuts.

BLACKHAWK features a unique mode of action that provides fast, effective control of many damaging insects. Its broad-spectrum control includes Colorado potato beetles in potatoes, and armyworms, tobacco budworms, corn earworms, European corn borers and loopers in peanuts.

BLACKHAWK also offers quick knockdown and residual control of worms, leafminers and thrips in sweet corn, snap beans, cotton, soybeans and sugarbeets.

“After years of research and development, Dow AgroSciences is confident that BLACKHAWK will offer the control that growers have asked for in their insect management program,” says Brian Timmerman, portfolio marketing leader for insecticides for Dow AgroSciences.

BLACKHAWK, which contains the active ingredient spinosad, is a Group 5 insecticide. BLACKHAWK™ insecticide is a unique, lignin-based formulation that provides excellent residual control on the foliage for consistent pest control. Spinosad received the 1999 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award and was registered under the Reduced Risk Pesticide Initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

BLACKHAWK maintains populations of most beneficial insects while not flaring secondary pests. It boasts a short re-entry and preharvest interval and has shown no phytotoxicity to crops.

“We are pleased that BLACKHAWK will improve the robust insecticide portfolio from Dow AgroSciences that is helping solve the insect problems growers face today,” Timmerman says.
