ENTRUST® SC Insecticide Gives Organic Growers Effective Insect Control

New liquid formulation an improvement on a trusted solution

Indianapolis - June 15, 2012

Organic growers now have an improved formulation of a trusted tool to help control damaging insects and grow healthy fruits and vegetables. ENTRUST® SC insecticide, which is listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production, has received federal registration from the Environmental Protection Agency.

ENTRUST SC is an enhancement of ENTRUST insect control, a longtime solution in organic production that was a wettable powder formulation. ENTRUST SC provides the performance organic growers have come to trust, but now in a convenient liquid suspension concentrate (SC) formulation that allows for easier measuring and mixing.

“Dow AgroSciences is confident that ENTRUST SC will satisfy the needs of organic growers,” says Brian Timmerman, insecticide portfolio marketing leader for Dow AgroSciences. “This product will provide growers with the efficacy they trust in the formulation they want.”

ENTRUST® SC insecticide is produced through the fermentation of a naturally occurring soil bacterium. Spinosad, the active ingredient in ENTRUST SC, is the only Group 5 insecticide listed by OMRI for use in organic production that offers control of thrips, worms and leafminers. ENTRUST SC also has demonstrated excellent efficacy against spotted wing drosophila compared with other organic insecticides in recent research trials.

ENTRUST SC is labeled for the control of insects in more than 200 crops, including alfalfa, berries, citrus, cole crops, cucurbits, field corn, fruiting vegetables, grass pastures, leafy vegetables, ornamentals, pome fruits, stone fruits, sweet corn and strawberries.

“ENTRUST SC provides effective control of targeted pests like thrips, worms and leafminers in a wide range of organically grown crops,” Timmerman says. “It does so without adversely affecting most non-target organisms or disrupting populations of most beneficial insects.”

Spinosad, the active ingredient in ENTRUST SC, received the 1999 Green Chemistry Challenge Award presented by the Environmental Protection Agency. The award recognizes products that reduce negative impacts on human health and the environment.
