Dow AgroSciences Holds First-Ever Open House at the New PhytoGen® Research Facility

Plot tours to showcase new PhytoGen brand varieties

Indianapolis, IN - September 14, 2009

Dow AgroSciences will open the gates of its newest PhytoGen® field station and cotton variety test plots to the public for the first time Thursday, Sept. 17. Producers throughout the Cotton Belt are invited to attend the event in Leland, Miss., from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Several leaders in the cotton industry, as well as PhytoGen researchers, will speak at the event. Many of the area Extension agronomists and cotton specialists also will be on hand to visit with growers.

In the plot tours, Dow AgroSciences will be showcasing its first entry into the mid- to full-season market with PhytoGen brand PHY 565 WRF. PhytoGen is introducing this and a limited number of other new varieties in 2010, including a new nematode-tolerant variety.

"Another highlight of the tour will be to witness the performance of several other early and early- to mid-maturing varieties across multiple soil types that we have here at the Mississippi station," says John Pellow, North America seeds and traits cotton field station leader for PhytoGen.

One of the early maturing varieties, PhytoGen brand PHY 375 WRF, is the No. 1 planted variety in the Delta this year. In fact, PhytoGen® is the fastest-growing brand in Upland cottonseed, and continues to hold the leading market position in Pima and Acala cottonseed.

"With the investment in this new cotton breeding field station, Dow AgroSciences has implemented an aggressive development program to bring its strong history of success to Southern cottonseed varieties," Pellow says.

PhytoGen brand cottonseed varieties are known for proprietary genetics that deliver excellent seedling vigor, high yields and high-quality cotton. PhytoGen brand varieties also contain either single or multiple trait combinations, including two-gene WideStrike® Insect Protection, Roundup Ready®, or Roundup Ready Flex.

The Open House will be held at the PhytoGen Field Station, located at 118 Kennedy Flat Road, Leland, Miss. For more information call 662-686-2041.
