Dow AgroSciences Sponsoring 2010 USA Rice Federation Scholarships

First-place winner will receive $4,000 scholarship

Indianapolis - April 12, 2010

Dow AgroSciences has reached an agreement with the USA Rice Federation to become the first sponsor of the National Rice Month Scholarships. Three scholarships totaling $8,500 will be distributed by USA Rice following a promotional contest held in September, the 20th anniversary of National Rice Month.

"Dow AgroSciences is extremely grateful for the opportunity to support such a great program," says Jim Parker, portfolio marketing leader for rice herbicides at Dow AgroSciences. "We are committed to the future of the rice industry and will continue to invest in the rice producers and consumers of tomorrow."

"The National Rice Month Scholarship program plays a valuable role in highlighting the importance of U.S. rice production as well as the nutritional benefits of rice," says USA Rice Federation President and CEO Betsy Ward. "We thank Dow AgroSciences for sponsoring the scholarship program, which encourages young people to learn more about the value of rice to their home states and to the nation."

Students entering the contest will be required to develop and conduct an activity during National Rice Month that promotes U.S.-grown rice. Entries will be judged on creativity and impact in promoting rice, National Rice Month and the importance of rice in the entrant's state. The grand-prize winner will receive a $4,000 scholarship as well as a trip with a chaperone to the award ceremony at the 2010 USA Rice Outlook Conference this December in Biloxi, Miss. The second-place winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship, and the third-place winner, a $1,500 scholarship.

To be eligible, students must be high-school seniors in the 2010-11 school year and must be from a rice-producing state. Student promotions must be conducted during September and submitted by Oct. 15, 2010. Visit www.USARice.com for a scholarship entry form and further scholarship requirements and guidelines.
