Pindar™ GT Herbicide Registered for Broadleaf Weed Control in Tree Nuts

Indianapolis - August 16, 2010

Dow AgroSciences received registration from the U.S. EPA and California Department of Pesticide Regulation for Pindar™ GT herbicide in tree nuts.

Pindar GT provides pre- and post-emergence control of more than 50 broadleaf weeds, including tough-to-control weeds such as fleabane, marestail, filaree and malva.

"Pindar GT will provide a strong foundation for residual herbicide programs," says Barat Bisabri, Dow AgroSciences field scientist.  "When applied in the fall or early winter, growers can expect from four to six months control of all key broadleaf weeds, including glyphosate-resistant marestail."

More than 100 efficacy trials with Pindar GT have been conducted in almonds, walnuts and pistachios since 2004.  In 2010 alone, Pindar GT was evaluated against grower standard programs in 21 large-scale commercial trials throughout the San Joaquin and Sacramento Valleys.

"What was particularly impressive was the consistency that Pindar GT showed in the trials," says Bisabri.  "2010 was an excellent year for efficacy trials due to increased rainfall, which can make proper timing of residual herbicides difficult and can lead to early breakdown of herbicides.  Despite the wetter-than-normal year, weed control provided by Pindar GT was consistent across geographies, soil types and rainfall levels.  In most trials, Pindar GT performed better than the standard residual herbicide program used by the grower."

Pindar GT has shown excellent crop safety and can be tank mixed with other commonly-used herbicides and adjuvants.  Product will be available for sale beginning in September 2010.
