Opensight® specialty herbicide combines aminopyralid with metsulfuron methyl — a combination that gives vegetation management professionals broader control with less effort. Packaged as a convenient dry-granule premix, Opensight delivers broad-spectrum, season-long control of more than 120 broadleaf weeds and long-term control of woody perennials like blackberry, with application flexibility.

Opensight requires less labor and is more cost-effective than tank-mixing the two active ingredients. It also delivers reliable control with less active ingredient applied per acre. The dry-granule formulation of Opensight is an excellent tank-mix partner, making it ideal for bareground treatments for noxious weed and brush control programs. It tank-mixes well with Accord®, DMA® 4, Garlon®, and Tordon® herbicides,* and the lightweight, easy-to-handle packaging creates less concern for spills.

Opensight also can be used in foliar applications and in riparian areas — up to the water’s edge of ponds, streams and seasonally dry wetlands — to give vegetation managers maximum convenience and flexibility.

It is labeled for use on noncrop areas, including industrial sites such as roadsides, utility rights-of-way and railroads, nonirrigation ditch banks, natural and wildlife habitat areas, and grazed areas in and around these sites. Opensight® specialty herbicide provides excellent activity on noxious and invasive weeds, problem broadleaf weeds, and brush across the country.

Historically, bush-type blackberry, a hard-to-control woody plant, behaves differently from one part of the country to another, and control has been inconsistent. Field trials were conducted by Dow AgroSciences throughout the U.S. between 2005 and 2008 to find a herbicide or mixture that would provide long-term bush-type blackberry control (more than one year). Field trials done in 2007 and rated in 2008 demonstrated that Opensight provides 78 percent control when applied at 2 ounces per acre, 87 percent control when applied at 2.5 ounces per acre and 98 percent control when applied at 3 ounces per acre.

According to the research, Opensight will work more effectively when applied in the fall. Opensight is an excellent fit for bermudagrass-release programs and has potential for lower-rate uses in fescue.
